If you’ve been contemplating entering Singapore’s competition for young fashion designers, Star Creation, you had better get yourself organised. Entries for the 2012 round of the contest close on January 31.
Organisers say that they’ve already received a huge number of entries from Asia, with lots coming from Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The theme for 2012 is “Fashion Without Frontiers” and the challenge is for young designers to come up with something that draws on worldwide concepts for colour, culture, fabrics, aesthetics and style to create collections that are not only creative, but also commercially viable.
Headed up by the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFf), Star Creation is part of Singapore’s “fashion week” which will be held from May 15-20. Finalists from the entries will show capsule collections on the runway at The Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza during fashion week.
Prizes for three winners include cash from Audi Singapore and the chance to work for a year with leading fashion company FJ Benjamin, as well as developing a capsule collection for Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX), Singapore’s fashion week, in 2013.
To enter Star Creation, designers need to be Asian, between 16 and 35 years old, have no more than two years in the fashion industry and not be involved in either selling their designs or labels during the competition. Designers need to submit six original and previously unreleased designs.
