The hugely popular TV series Downton Abbey and the highly-anticipated release of upcoming movie The Great Gatsby have got everyone talking about the 1920s.
This was the period when flapper dresses were in fashion, jazz was the music listened to and dancing was strictly of the Charleston kind.
Fabulous hair and beauty were also key and the iconic looks of the 1920s have been repeated over and over again in the years since.
The classic trends from the era are fun to recreate with stars such as Drew Barrymore already making notable nods to the decade when on the red carpet.
Women had more freedom than ever before in the 1920s and so they chose to wear their hair short. Chic bobs topped off with head hugging waves was the most popular style.
Cover Media caught up with celebrity hair stylist Mark Hill to find out how we can add a touch of dramatic old Hollywood glamour to a modern day routine.
"To recreate the look you need to start with super smooth hair. Do this by blow drying using a large round brush and pointing the nozzle of your dryer down the hair from root to tip to eliminate any flyaways," he explained.
"Once you have smoothed your hair, the modern way to style it is by using my Magic Wand or Rock Chick Wave Wand. Take large sections of hair, spray with a protecting product, then wrap neatly around the barrel of the Wand. Don’t wind from the roots – start around the temple area.
"Hold the wand in the section for a few seconds and then unwind. Immediately wind the wave back on itself and secure using a pin curl clip. Do this through the rest of your hair and then leave to cool. Take the pin curl clips out and using a natural bristle brush, comb through the waves to smooth and add shine. Use a shine serum to define the waves and finish with hairspray."
Don't fancy chopping off your locks? Then you can still try the style out by using Mark's cunning tip.
"If your hair is longer, you can always cheat the bob by pulling your hair back into a loose ponytail and tucking your hair under the band," he revealed. © Cover Media
