Alexander Wang will reportedly be announced as Balenciaga's new creative director next week.
WWD has confirmed that the New York designer will be the fashion house's designer following Nicolas Ghesquière's resignation. Nicolas had been with the company since 1997 and will leave the position today.
The rumoured appointment of Alexander has been rife all week in the fashion industry. Miles Socha at WWD has now confirmed that the signing has been inked, with an official announcement expected imminently.
Earlier this week, Cathy Horyn claimed that Alexander was the leading contender for the job on New York Times' fashion blog On The Runway.
The young designer has proved he fits the bill for Balenciaga with his clothing, shoes and accessories that are filled with street-influenced aesthetic.
The 28-year-old designer has not only managed to create top-selling shoes and accessories from his diffusion line, but has managed to market himself as an identifiable brand in just six years.
Alexander's fashion shows are some of the most highly anticipated of each season, and he is a dab hand at creating headline grabbing news. He arranged for Liberty Ross to walk his Spring/Summer 13 runway, following her husband Rupert Sanders' high profile affair with actress Kristen Stewart. - © Cover Media
