Nestled in a cosy corner of Katong Village lies WineBOS Katong, a diner that quite literally, has something for everyone.
On any given day, you’ll find people from all walks of life at the joint. From the group of girlfriends unwinding over a bottle of wine, and the bunch of guys cheering over the live game, to the family feasting on some comfort food, WineBOS exudes a casual, laid-back vibe that makes it so welcoming to all.
With its roots in the wholesale and distributorship of wines from around the world to hotels and other F&B outlets, WineBOS - as the name suggests - is best known for its extensive yet affordable wine list, but also offers diners a range of value-for-money comfort food.
Ambience: You’d be forgiven for thinking it was a sports bar judging from the large high-definition plasma screens mounted both at inside and at the al fresco area, but step inside and you’ll see that the diner is furnished with the plush seats and ornate chandeliers you’d expect to find in an old-school fine dining restaurant.
Wine-coloured tablecloths and dusky lighting also give the place an added feel of richness which thankfully, is not reflected in the prices.
Must tries/specialties: The sirloin steak ($15.50, pictured below left), is 200g of juicy prime air-flown beef, and goes for a steal at just $9 on weekends until 9pm. Do go early to snag yourself a piece though, as this dish sells like hotcakes throughout the week.
Those with heartier appetites can go for the 400g porterhouse steak ($29, pictured below right) instead. Served with crispy onion rings and vegetables, this dish will sate any meat cravings you might have.
While crackling pork knuckles are usually known to be paired with beer, the pork knuckles ($24, pictured above) at WineBOS go equally well with a good white wine. With just the right ratio of crispy skin to fall-of-the-bone meat, this dish is accompanied by a serving of sauerkraut. Go on a Monday and get it at a promotional price of $12.
Price: Sides range from $7.50 for an order of nachos to $12 for the popular spicy cheese mussels, while mains start at $14.50 for a pasta dish and go up to $29 for the porterhouse steak. Take your pick from the affordable selection of wines that ranging from $32 for a white from Germany to $128 for an Italian red.
Verdict:
A pleasant dining option away from the city for hearty pub grub with the family or a relaxed chill-out spot for a night out with friends.
