Tired of voluminous “princess” wedding gowns? Looking to frighten your grandparents? Or annoy your soon-to-be mother-in-law? Then opt for an extreme wedding gown inspired by French couturier Stéphane Rolland.
Two examples of couturier Stéphane Rolland's wedding gowns
Rolland is a member of France’s Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture – the organisation that defines what truly is haute couture fashion – and therefore one of the rare fashion designers who can officially add “haute couture” to his creations’ labels.
He actually showed his most recent collection in Singapore at the first Women’s Fashion Week, haute couture “festival”. Rolland’s creations are stunning to look at, take hours and hours of work to create and are astronomically priced.
“My brides always challenge the traditional notion of the couture bride,” says Rolland. “I aim for each season’s bride to outdo the previous. I suspect I have managed that so far.
“My brides are never traditional and usually reflect my dedication to modern art. In each collection, I thrive for the final look to be a celebration of the elements that inspired me, and those are usually contemporary architecture and modern art.”
