US President Barack Obama has joked his wife Michelle's new haircut is the "most significant event" of the weekend.
The politician referenced Michelle's chunky bangs during his speech ahead of his second inauguration ceremony last night.
Barack gave his 49-year-old wife's stylish and on trend bob with fringe the seal of approval by opening his address to the nation by commenting on her new look.
"I love Michelle Obama, and to address the most significant event of this weekend, I love her bangs," Barack joked. "I'm delivering another speech tomorrow, so tonight I'm going to be pretty brief because there's a limited amount of good lines and you don't want to use them all up tonight."
Michelle's hair-do has been the subject of online discussions since she debuted it in a photo taken at the White House on Thursday.
The change from her usual look to this bold hair statement follows fellow style icon Britain's Duchess of Cambridge's decision to go for a chopped fringe recently.
As well as being an age-defying style, Michelle's cut is in fashion as fringes were seen on the summer catwalks at Burberry and Balenciaga.
Michelle chose to wear a royal blue dress and cardigan by American designer Reed Krakoff at Sunday's swearing-in ceremony.
The First Lady and daughter Malia matched President Barack Obama's blue suit, also complementing the Blue Room of the White House, where the small ceremony took place.
It's not the first time Michelle has chosen a design by Krakoff. She has previously worn a gown and jacket by the designer, who is the president and executive creative director of Coach, Inc.
On Saturday the President's second inauguration got off to an explosive start with the Kids' Inaugural Concert in Washington, D.C. where stars including Katy Perry hit the stage.
Showing off her patriotic spirit in a sexy stars-and-stripes-themed leotard, the pop icon sang several of her biggest hits including Teenage Dream.
Michelle and her daughters, Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, sat front row at the show and clapped and danced along to Katy's performance, which Michelle spoke about particularly enjoying.
"Inauguration is a really big deal. There's balls. Everybody dresses up and dances," Michelle told the audience at the event. "Let me tell you: I love every single minute of it. Every single minute. But I have to tell you that my very favourite part of this entire weekend is being right here with all of you."
