As the third Green Carpet Challenge gets underway, Livia Firth will wear a Giorgio Armani-designed gown made using eco-friendly fabrics to Sunday's Golden Globes awards ceremony, reports WWD January 12.
Creators including Tom Ford, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Stella McCartney are just some of the big names to have signed up for the initiative, founded by film producer Firth in 2009 along with British journalist Lucy Siegle.
Paul Smith, Valentino, Roger Vivier, Alberta Ferretti and Ermenegildo Zegna have also agreed to produce ethical and sustainable pieces for industry events such as the Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globes.
"I'm extremely thrilled that Livia wanted to involve me in such an ambitious project," Ferretti is quoted as saying in British Vogue.
"Creating feminine, glamorous, yet eco-friendly clothes is a challenge that stimulates my creativity. I believe that fashion is a strong way of communication that can support such an actual and contemporary cause."
Italian Vogue editor-in-chief of Franca Sozzani has also shown her support for the initiative, taking to her blog January 11 to express the fashion industry's "concrete commitment" to the environment and sustainability.
Since her actor husband Colin won a Golden Globe nomination for Tom Ford's A Single Man back in 2009, Firth has only worn dresses made from eco-friendly fabrics during the ceremony season, including one upcycled from an old Tom Ford suit.
