It’s hailed as a makeup hero for those with sensitive or blemish-prone skin.
But is mineral makeup an option for those who simply fancy a gentler alternative?
The short answer is, yes. And with cosmetics companies clambering to create their own collections, there are plenty of options available.
But first things first, what are the big benefits of mineral makeup?
Its main appeal is the fact that it is non-comedogenic, which means it doesn't clog up the pores but instead lets the skin breathe.
The short list of ingredients in any item of mineral makeup is also free from perfume and preservatives - the usual culprits when it comes to crimes of skin irritation.
We caught up with Sarah-Jane Froom, International Makeup Artist for top mineral makeup brand bareMinerals, to find out exactly why she swears by mineral makeup.
“Mineral makeup won’t block pores or sit in fine lines, it will give you glowing looking skin without the look or feel of makeup,” explains Sarah-Jane.
“It’s perfect for dry or problem skin because it is formulated without parabens, preservatives, fillers, binders or talcs – meaning it will work with your skin and not against it.”
And if it’s an on-trend dewy look you’re after, don’t be put off by the powder-like appearance of most mineral makeups.
“If you want to create a really dewy look try a brightening mineral primer over your moisturiser,” says Sarah-Jane.
“Then apply Swirl, Tap, Buff Original Foundation into the skin - the more you buff the better the coverage will become and the more dewy your skin will look.
“Follow that up with Clear Radiance on the highs of the cheek bones, down the centre of the nose and above brows to highlight skin, this will give you stunning dewy looking skin,” she adds.
So, what trends is Sarah-Jane loving this year?
“Any kind of blues and electric greens are big for 2013,” says Sarah.
“Try bright green on the eye lids and follow with Flawless Definition Mascara in a gorgeous turquoise colour.
“Follow with a sheer lip colours for a pretty Spring look.” © Cover Media
