It’s a multi-billion dollar industry with beauty forecasters projecting its size will inflate even further this year.
So, it’s no wonder that the anti-ageing industry pounces upon any new ingredient being hailed as the latest wrinkle-blitzing wonder stuff.
And one of the ingredients to recently whip the cosmetics world into a frenzy is Tetrapeptide-21.
A line-busting wonder ingredient, billed as ‘pollyfilla for wrinkles,’ the skin-boosting product works by stimulating the body to produce more collagen, which skin begins to lack as it ages.
Tetrapeptide-21 is the latest in a line of breakthrough ingredients. Here we take a look at the best anti-ageing goodies to look out for.
Retinol
Retinol helps skin cells create better, healthier skin cells. It has been shown to increase the skin's collagen production, resulting in firmer skin with an improved texture.
Ceramides
They make up about 20 per cent of the skin's intercellular matrix, the 'glue' that holds skin cells together. When your skin suffers from sun damage, a dry environment or irritating skin care products, ceramides decrease, leaving the skin vulnerable, therefore replenishing the skin's ceramide content is a powerful way to protect skin.
Glycans
Existing naturally on the surface of cells, glycans are sugar molecules that aid in cellular communication. Yves Saint Laurent researchers have created a combination of three glycans designed to help more-mature skin cells communicate and regenerate like younger ones do.
Rhamnose
Unlike retinoids, which work by increasing cell turnover, rhamnose signals a jump-start, telling the relevant cells to behave like younger versions of themselves. The sugar molecule works to thicken the epidermis significantly after eight weeks and boosts production of elastin, collagen, and other beneficial proteins. © Cover Media
