Iris Apfel for Mac
She might be 90 but age for super-stylish nonagenarian Iris Apfel, age ain’t nothing but a number.

In fact, the silver-haired textiles maverick – known for her giant round spectacles and daring outfits - is hotter than ever in the style stakes as she prepares to launch her makeup collaboration with MAC.

Inspired by her 2005 Rare Bird exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 20-piece line, which is on sale from January 5, is mostly named after birds.

It includes lipsticks, eye shadows and nail polishes with names like Scarlet Ibis, Early Bird and Toco Toucan, and is a celebration of her colourful life and style.

The palette she has chosen for the line is as contemporary as ever, with hot pinks, gemstone greens, shocking scarlets alongside more muted dark greys, blues and orange.

In fact, the scarlet lipstick was used by makeup artist Andrew Gallimore for the Erdem Spring/Summer 12 show.

The MAC collaboration is testament to Iris’ inimitable style and while she might describe herself as a 'geriatric starlet,' the reality is that she’s fashion's latest muse, inspiring everyone from designers to glossy magazine editors.

MAC says the range is 'a colour collection inspired by a rare bird who has always been ahead of her time.' © Cover Media
