On the runway at the Gucci Spring/Summer 13 catwalk show models boasted cutting-edge hair designs courtesy of John Frieda stylists.
The famed haircare brand's Global Creative Consultant Luigi Murenu is the man behind the inspirational styles. Cover Media spoke to the renowned hairdresser about how these innovative and directional looks were created.
"The new collection showed it is all change at Gucci and the hair not only referenced the turning of the seasons but also the decade," Luigi explained, "this was seen in the slick city looks and sculptural updos created on the models.
“The spirit is a graphic, pulled-back style which has a lot of personality. It is modern due to its strong sense of structure and architecture," Luigi continued. "The inspiration is based on the Gucci collection which was a riot of colour, head to toe looks in fuchsia pink, blue, yellow, green. There is a new era of colour-blocking and this is it. [The woman who wears this look] is a model muse from the late '60s/ early '70s, sophisticated and powerful, she knows her own mind."
Luigi explained how a similar effect can be achieved at home. He also shared which make-up compliments the finished hairdo best.
"Smooth a frizz-easing serum into the parting for extra glossiness then secure the lengths into a low-slung bun at nape of neck. Use flat-ironed extensions wrapped around the bun to create structural flare. For high-octane shine crystallise the whole look with lashings of shine glossing mist and hairspray," he explained.
"The hairstyle works best when the look is in keeping with the make-up of that era. For example a perfect pleat looks best with sultry smoky eyes and va va voom false lashes."
