It’s the anti-ageing superfood that’s jam-packed with skin-boosting nutrients.
And with the likes of Miranda Kerr and Gwyneth Paltrow raving about its beauty benefits, if you’ve not already heard of Chia or Aztec seeds, you will do soon.
For those who are not in the know, Chia seed oil is super moisturising.
It hydrates, rebuilds, protects and calms skin. The powerful antioxidants in the oil work to protect skin against damage from free radicals associated with ageing and UV damage.
Chia also contains high levels of vitamin B3, which is highly anti-inflammatory and reduces redness and blemishes.
Those omega-3 fatty acids, praised for their nutritional benefits, also mean that chia seed oil encourages the formation of collagen and elastin to keep skin firm and supple and reduce wrinkles.
Once worshipped by the Aztecs as the food of the gods, Chia comes from the same family as mint and became a staple food in South America where it was as widely cultivated as maize.
Adding credence to the hotly-tipped skin goodies, American clinical dermatologist Nicholas Perricone has made Aztec seeds the star ingredient of his latest product, Chia Serum
“As a dermatologist, I believe essential fatty acids are vitally important to beautiful skin,” says Dr Perricone.
“Chia seeds are one of the richest vegetable sources of essential fatty acids and can keep the skin soft, supple and youthful.
"Cold-pressed, extra virgin chia oil, especially when combined with fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients, rapidly transforms skin to give a vibrant, glowing and more healthy complexion," he adds.
