Whether you’re a fan of pretty neutrals or smokey hues, one thing is for sure – you’ll want your eyeshadow to last.
After all, there’s nothing worse than meticulously blending a perfect colour, for it then to migrate into the crease of your lids before you’ve even left the house.
The solution? Preparation makes perfect.
“Before applying any colour product to the eyes, creams or powders, I like to slick on a small amount of NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base,” reveals Anna Gardner, the writer behind award-winning blog Vivianna Does Makeup.
“There's no creasing, moving or fading of colour when this primer is in town.
“And I've been loving the Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Fuller Fudge - subtle bronzed smoky in one sweep,” she adds.
Here are some tips for ensuring your gorgeous eye colour won’t shift.
1. Excess oil is the main problem you’ll need to overcome when preparing your eyes for shadow. Your best bet is to give your eye sockets a quick cleanse with a super-light cleanser such as Kiehl's Oil-Free Cleanser.
2. Next, apply either an eyeshadow primer or a light foundation to give the shadow a base to adhere to. Bases and primers are specially formulated to act as a barrier against oil and they provide a smooth, dry surface which should keep oil at bay.
3. If you’re worried about excess oil, use a powder shadow rather than a cream. If you’ve fallen in love with a particular cream that you’re super-keen to use, give it a dust with some translucent powder.
