Body brushing for glowing complexionHow would you feel about boosting your complexion, circulation and immune system in just three minutes? It’s probably fair to say you’d jump at the chance. In that case, body brushing could be the answer.

With devotees including Miranda Kerr and Gwyneth Paltrow, dry skin brushing is an excellent exfoliation tool, removing dead cells from the surface of the skin, allowing for cell renewal and assisting better penetration of body products and treatment.

“Giving your skin a good brush will not only improve its appearance but it will also boost blood circulation and your immune system. Plus it’s completely invigorating,” says skincare guru Louise Tear.

“Invest in a palm-sized, natural-bristle brush and start off in the morning before you jump in the shower.”

Brushing also assists in lymphatic drainage, stimulating blood circulation, thus increasing oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

With dead cells removed, trapped toxic wastes can more easily be excreted. As a result, the skin will feel and look much healthier

“Sweep the brush over every surface of the body except the face or any areas of sensitive skin,” says Louise.

“Use long, smooth strokes towards your heart and brush arms, legs and buttocks in an upward direction.

“Then brush your back and body in a downward direction and finally sweep across the shoulders.

“Concentrate on your hips and thighs to help improve the appearance of cellulite and dimpled skin.

“You don’t need to be too vigorous. Start off with gentle strokes but gradually increase the pressure after the first few days or weeks as you get used to the feeling,” she adds.
