And the hair colour trends for 2013 are...Fancy a change of hair colour this spring?

Then why not take the plunge and give your locks a tonal overhaul.

“This season, hair takes inspiration from sweltering summertime heat,” says session colourist Adam Russell from Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa.

“Rather than opting for bright, vivid, contrasting tones, colour should take a more muted approach.

“Premium glossy hues are still paramount, but reference should initially come from over exposed, bleached and washed out tones inspired by bleached woods and naturally sun-exposed materials.

“Ombre will continue to be a big trend, but will step up a gear, merging multiple shades together rather than just two.

“Coloured panelling is also another great way to add a burst of interest and colour pop to your style, and gives you the option to have it on display in the evening, or to disguise it during the day,” he adds.

Here are Adam’s top tips for a 2013 twist on everyday colour.

Blonde
Blondes this season should take on an ‘almost natural’ approach. Colours should look both delicate and gentle, for a classier, more refined finish. Mix darker hues with softer, more muted tones to give the finished style the appearance of texture and movement.

Red
This season hues of strawberry blonde, soft ginger and faded copper take centre stage. These muted tones can be fused together to create a more dishevelled finished, rather than looking too prim and polished. Think pastel shades of auburn, apricot and light peach.

Brunette
If you’re a naturally, dark brunette, then maximise on this shade this season and go for a high shine, glossy, reflective shade like onyx.

For lighter brunettes go for something slightly softer, like conker or chestnut, which has a slightly muted, more beachy finish to it.

Ombre looks fantastic with muted coffee shades so try adding soft panels of dark toffees, caramels and beige tones to create a cascading wall of flowing colour.
