What: Zardoze Autumn/Winter 2013
Trend to note: Bold, dramatic smokey eyes were the focus of the show
Homegrown fashion label, Zardoze had its first showing at the Audi Fashion Festival 2013 to much success. The label showed off their ready to wear looks alongside glamourous gowns from their Panthea collection.
Not only were most of the collection head-turners, the models on the runway also sported dramatic, striking eyes that were (to say the least) eye-catching works of art.
NARS Lead Makeup Artist Priscilla Yu, with 10 years of experience under her belt working at various fashion weeks (including New York Fashion Week) for designers like Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim and Marc Jacobs, worked on creating these looks to match the tone of the collection. Here are some tips on how to achieve it and get it right.

Ready to Wear Look:
NARS Lead Makeup Artist Priscilla Yu wanted the first look to be elegant with a touch of the ‘80s vibe. She focused her attention on bold smokey eyes and dark red lips, with contouring done on the cheeks.
She prepped the skin and applied the NARS Light Optimizing Primer all over with the main focus on the forehead and chin areas, followed up with the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, and used the NARS Copacabana Multiple after for that glow. She set the makeup with the NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder concentrating on the centre of the face, ensuring that the features captured the most light on the runway.
To get the eye-popping look for the peepers, she used the NARS Eyeliner in Mambo as the base. She shaded in the entire area of the lid liberally and filled in the upper and lower lash lines.
She then piled on the NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Surabaya and blended the hue in upwards with a brush.

Brows were kept to a bare minimum while cheeks were contoured with the NARS Blush in Laguna, swept on from the centre of the ear inwards, slightly below the cheekbone.
Dark red lips were achieved by layering three different textures – the NARS Lipliner Pencil in African Queen, the NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in Red Lizard and the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Majella. The lipliner was used to define the lips while the satin lip pencil was used towards the centre of the lip, near to the cupid bow to enhance the pout.

Panthea Look:
This striking look definitely stopped us in our tracks. Not only were the eyes dramatic, the messy bouffant hairdo was just as show-stopping.
The NARS Black Moon Eyeliner was used both as a liner to line the lower lashline and as an eyeshadow colour in this instance. The eyeliner was used liberally, as the base colour for the look and was blended outwards for that smudged, messy effect. A winged tip was also drawn towards the end of the eye, extending outwards to slightly past where the brows ended.

Yu then brushed on and blended in the black hue from the NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Pandora to soften the look. She used the brush to spread the shadow concentrating on the front part of the eye, ending off with a smudged, cloudy effect towards the end.
The silver shade from the NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Paris was then added for a tinge of silvery sheen - exuding the necessary glitz to go with the gowns.

The cheeks and lips were left very nude; with the cheeks lightly highlighted with a mixture of NARS Blush in Nico and Sand. The lips were filled in with the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Belle De Jour and topped off with NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Candy Says.
According to Director of Toni & Guy, May Eng, who was in charge of the hairstyles, the messy bouffant was achieved by spraying on Redken’s Quick Tease Backcombing Finishing Spray, which allowed even the finest strands of hair to be styled easily.

Finale look:
Although this look was worn by just one model - renowned Indian actress/model Nethra Guha née Raghuraman – it made the most impact as she walked down the runway, closing the show in the ultimate luxury piece, the Diamond Dress, adorned with 500 diamonds worth half a million dollars.
Makeup Artist Yu used the NARS South Beach Multiple and blended it all over Raghuraman’s lid, defining the top and bottom with NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Black Moon and making her eyes pop. She also added contours and more textures with the NARS The Happening Cheek and Eye Palette.

A slight blush was added with the help of NARS Blush in Laguna and Orgasm being lightly swept under the cheekbones and her pout was enhanced with NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Candy Says and NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned.
With these insider tips, it seems that bold, dramatic smokey eyes and even dark red lips may not be so difficult to achieve after all.
