Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld hinted he has been impressed with the singer-turned-designer’s work, before adding he likes her personality.
He also complimented Alexander McQueen head Sarah Burton for her outstanding work since the designer’s death.
“Not that bad,” he told British newspaper The Times when asked about Victoria’s fashion range.
“Victoria Beckham is a clever girl. I knew her when she was a Spice Girl. She’s very clever and very funny. And I think a guy like David [Beckham, her husband] needed a woman like this. She is tough, fun and clever.
“I must say, the girl who took over McQueen [Sarah Burton] is kind of a genius. I like what she does.”
Talking about his own incredible career, Karl claimed that he is disliked by his own generation. He thinks nostalgia inhibits success and he doesn’t work or socialise with people of his own age.
The 78-year-old believes that to stay relevant, you have to continuously tune into new trends rather than looking back.
“I am appreciated by every generation but my own. My generation hates me. I don’t even know what happened to the people my age. They disappeared out of my vision,” he said.
“When people I know for a long time start to talk about the good old days, their days are over. Maybe they were good – but it’s up to you to make the present pleasant, too, because we have to adapt to the time.
“The time does not adapt to you. And if you think it is not your time, then you stay at home with your memoirs and your souvenirs, and look at your old photos. I don’t do that. You have to kick the a**e of your own past!”
