Lusting after lengthy locks? Pondering an elfin crop? Well, hold fire because according to beauty watchers, this season is all about mid-length chic.

From the runway to the red carpet, shoulder-grazing tresses are everywhere this spring.

Just ask Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss who ditched her trademark tumbling locks in favour of an edgier graduated bob.

“Soft, free and tousled are the key buzz words to follow this season,” confirms celebrity hairdresser Adam Russell.

“And although there is less length to play with, hair should still have a ‘finished’ quality to it, so invest in some curling tongs to give hair movement and body,” he adds.

The fringe is also back this year, and already there are a host of celebrities jumping on the band wagon.

“Experiment with block fringes, geometric angles, side fringes or a why not a longer peek-a-boo option? For the non-committal, why not toy with a clip-in fringe like Kim Kardashian,” says Adam.

Alongside being on-trend, mid-length hair can be stylishly worn up as well as down.

“To dress this look up for evening, try plaiting the front section of hair along the fringe line, and follow down towards the ear for a slightly kooky finish,” suggests Adam.

“Shorter hair can be difficult to control with this almost regimented trend, so apply a serum, such as Richard Ward Couture Hair Memoriser Holding Serum to damp hair before styling.”

And to keep your shoulder-grazing do looking tip-top, Adam urges to treat it with care.

“To wear this mid-length, hair needs to look healthy and in optimum condition, so keep it looking its best with regular hair masques and trims to prevent split ends,” he says. - © Cover Media
