Braids have been a huge trend for the last few seasons.
And judging by the red carpets, the look isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
From Cara Delevingne at the Met Ball to Emma Watson and Nicole Kidman at Cannes, braids are having something of a celebrity moment too.
Whether you’re a fan of halo braids and fishtail plaits or knotted chignons and twisted buns, there are plenty of ways to work the look.
Just ask celebrity hairdresser Darren Ambrose.
“Braids are a huge trend this season, not only on the runway but also on the red carpet,” confirms Darren who regularly transforms the tresses of the rich and famous.
Fancy recreating a fashion-forward yet very wearable look?
Here are Darren’s tips for an effortlessly stylish braided up-do.
1. On blow-dried hair, create a nice low side parting and spritz with L’Oréal Air Fix hairspray to help bond it together.
2. Starting with the top and the biggest side of the hair, tilt head slightly forward and when hair is slightly over your face grab the fringe area and start twisting towards the ear. When you reach just behind your ear, start adding the back section as you go in one - two inch sections.
3. Continue the twist and roll to the opposite side of the head below the ear.
4. Taking the other side, smooth that section into the ponytail, twist the whole section together and secure with a bungee. Take a little half-inch section from the ponytail and wrap around the bungee.
