The love affair between Agyness Deyn and Dr. Martens seems to be longer-lasting than most celebrity relationships. From being the muse and model for the footwear brand’s Spring Summer 2012 campaign that celebrated first love, the British model moved to the behind-the-scenes process of shoe designing in collaboration with Dr. Martens and it looks like they’ve got a good thing going on.
The Agyness Deyn for Dr. Martens’ third capsule collection hits closer to home – Deyn found inspiration from the subcultural heritage of the UK footwear brand and her interpretation of the distinctively British Mod look – a departure from her ’90s grunge Autumn Winter 2012 selection and Harajuku-themed Spring Summer 2013 range.
The clothing and accessories feature prints influenced by British tailoring fabrics like houndstooth and herringbone patterns with Deyn’s own twist of a must-have in every home in UK – the teapot. The appropriately named “Tea Dress” incorporates the houndstooth and herringbone print with the teapot motif and we can picture Deyn in this oversized point-collar, drop-waist and pleats number off-duty with Dr. Marten boots of course.
The mod vibe flows through to the footwear like the classic desert boot, two-tone lace up shoe and a two-tone Mary Jane heeled sandal.
“I seem to be making characters for each new season. This season’s character is probably the quiet girl in the bunch whose walls are covered in posters of The Yardbirds, The Smiths and The Who,” says Deyn
The campaign focuses on the behind-the-scenes look. Watch the video below for a peek at Deyn’s involvement in the entire process from sketches, fitting to shooting her muse Grace for the campaign.
The Agyness Deyn for Dr. Martens Autumn Winter 13 collection will be available at Dr. Martens at #02-17A Wheelock Place from September 2013.
