The '80s beauty phenomenon of the French manicure is back. For Spring Summer 2013, make-up artist Peter Philips created a discreet, shiny French manicure using Chanel's Le Vernis in Ballerina. Chanel aren't the only beauty experts jumping on the updated version of the classic nail look—there are perfectly pale pinks and natural-looking nudes in almost every nail colour collection this season. Here's how to create a few different variations on the look:
The classic French
The notable difference on the modern day French mani is soft pink tips instead of stark white ones. Because the pink is light in some takes on the trend, the effect is very subtle and you almost don't notice at first. Try OPI's Nail Lacquer in Don’t Burst My Bubble which is ideal for the look.
The sugary sweet French
Think pink and go for candy colours to create the prettiest of effects. Why not splash out on a YSL Nail Lacquer in Rose Romantique for the most deluxe finish.
The chic French
If you're not a fan of pink, subtle nudes are equally effective. Check out Essie Nail Polish in Allure.
The authentic French
A little white crayon under the nail tips is the way all the coolest French girls do it. Try Rimmel Nail White Pencil for a reasonably-priced option.
