Frida Giannini's daringly sheer mesh T-shirts and fearless floral pants for Spring 2014 may not work for those of us with less exuberant fashion sense, but the makeup spotted at the show – now, that we can work with.
Full of joyous verve and sunny sexiness, the Gucci girls' looks were centred around their brilliantly executed eyes.
Maquillage master Pat McGrath brushed on painterly strokes of russet red, burnished copper and antique gold tones onto the models' lids, for a richly opulent eye that retained just enough airy sandiness to pull off for day.
The trick to recreating this updated day version of the metallic smoky is artful placement of colour, coupled with plenty of blending. Here's how:
1. Using soft, feathery strokes, fill in brows with a creamy pencil – but don't go too dark as the focal point is the lid.
2. Start with well, an eye-grabbing hue with the most shine. For Gucci, the entire socket was given a light wash of glinting bronze.
3. Use a wet, angled precision brush to line the lower lashes with the same intense bronze, then smudge gently.
4. Next, pick up a coppery red with a softer, wider brush and deftly press the colour into the centre of your lids, blending out right up to the brow.
5. Finally, use the pointed end of a soft brush to apply a softer, accent gold on the inner corners. This will catch the light for a multidimensional glimmer.
6. To transition to night, simply add another layer of the reddish copper in the middle, then blend, blend, blend. Viola! The new metallic smoky for 2014.
P.S. If you're wondering about the loose, shiny waves the Gucci models were sporting, their slicked-back manes are a simple variation of a trend we've noted earlier at New York Fashion Week. Read our report and learn how to get the wet hair look.
