Cold winter weather can be hard on your skin and promote roughness and wrinkles, experts say.
One of France's most prestigious dermatological centers, University Hospital St Jacques, tested the effects of UK-based Vitabiotics Perfectil Platinum tablets (£23.95 for 30 tablets), finding that women who took the supplements had fewer fine lines and smoother skin after a few months of cold winter weather than women who didn't, Business Standard reports. The double-blind placebo-controlled study involved 80 women between the ages of 35 and 55.
"The results of this trial show that women wishing to protect their skin against the winter should consider a supplement such as Perfectil," said Professor Philippe Humbert, head of dermatology at University Hospital St Jacques and study author. "The dry and cold winter weather has a great influence on the condition of exposed skin, affecting the face the most. Year after year these changes in roughness, skin thickness and elasticity lead to visible skin aging."
Perfectil Platinum contains a biomarine collagen, flavanols from pine bark to boost your natural collagen production, as well as grape seed extracts, lycopene, and alpha lipoic acid.
The findings appear online in the journal Clinical Interventions in Aging.
Separate research involving anti-aging supplements includes a study on a plant pill called Dove Spa Strength Within – containing a mix of soy isoflavones, lycopene, vitamins C and E and omega-3 fatty acids – which researchers say could help banish wrinkles and crow's feet by 10 percent. The study, published this autumn in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, was funded by Unilever, Dove's parent company, and involved 166 women.
Another recent study found that taking 2.5 grams of Gelita Verisol collagen peptides per day apparently increases "skin elasticity," according to findings published in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology. - - AFP RELAXNEWS
