Swedish luxury label Acne has unveiled a new tartan-tastic capsule collection packed with the classic Scottish pattern.
Is the Scandinavian brand preemptively celebrating the impending referendum on Scotland's independence? Or do the Swedes, like the rest of us, just love a warm, bright tartan in the dark winter months? Who can say?
Either way, Acne studios have revealed an exciting new capsule collection for women, celebrating the famed Scottish fabric, and using tartan patterns picked out from "irresistible archive findings" according to the brand.
The tartan tradition of course goes back to the inhabitants of the chilly Scottish Highlands. While the first tartans date back to the 2nd century AD, tartan as we know it today (in all its multicolored magnificence), didn't develop until the 16th century when different clans began to pick their own family colors, and the rich history of the fabric began to develop.
Tartan has now become a modern fashion classic, first adopted by punk rockers and then pulled onto the runway by designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.
The pieces in the collection include t-shirts, sweaters, scarves and a range of other ready-to-wear and accessories including denim and fleece. The Acne Studios capsule is available at selected stores and online at acnestudios.com. - AFP RELAXNEWS
