Fans and loyal subjects of Queen Bey, all “Rise”. That’s the name of Beyoncé’s third and latest fragrance, which takes its moniker from a poem from the seminal African-American author and poet, Maya Angelou.

In a statement released this week to Women’s Wear Daily, Coty’s vice president of global marketing Marsha Brooks said the notes for the new “female empowerment” scent were chosen to evoke “a strong sense of overcoming adversity and rising above it all.”

That’s all well and good, but what does feminism smell like? In Beyoncé’s universe, something called gold symphony orchid, apparently. Billed as the “queen of orchids”, the delicate floral accords are folded into a simmering amber base of other “warm” notes culled from velvety vetiver, golden apricot, Italian bergamot, freesia and a minty jolt of what Coty refers to as “iced basil sorbet”.

No word yet on an official release date, but as far as making a feminist point goes, Rise is shaping up to sound – and smell! – absolutely divine!
