The second trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man in 3D, starring Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Peter Parker and the superhero, went online February 7 at midnight PT after a 13-city worldwide preview event in theaters February 6.
The reboot of the Spider-Man franchise is an origin story, explaining how the teenage Peter Parker came to discover his destiny as Spider-Man.
The trailer introduces the characters, including his girlfriend Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone (The Help), her father the chief of police, played by Denis Leary, and Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I) as the villain Lizard/Dr. Curt Connors, a mad scientist and former colleague of Peter's father.
When Peter finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared, his quest leads him to the laboratory and soon he discover his powers and must confront the enemy he fears he created.
The action-packed footage shows glimpses of The Lizard, Spider-Man escaping a collapsing skyscraper, a police manhunt, an unmasking of the hero, and perfect shots for 3D viewing with a flying and leaping superhero.
The film also costars Martin Sheen and Sally Fields as Parker's aunt and uncle, Campbell Scott as Parker's father, and Marvel's Stan Lee, who makes a cameo appearance.
It is directed by Marc Webb, who had an indie hit with (500) Days of Summer starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3-6 worldwide, and premieres in Japan on June 30.
