Lippie addicts, time to strip off: Urban Decay has released a gloss companion for its cult Naked series of eyeshadow palettes

We’ve previously compared the obsessive speculation over the third edition of Urban Decay’s Naked palettes as being uncannily similar to the iPhone phenomenon over in the tech community. By that token, we’re going to call the beauty brand’s new Naked lip gloss the cosmetic equivalent of the iPod.

Beauty observers may scoff at the somewhat dated notion of a “gloss” product – matte formulas, after all, were slapped onto just about every model’s mouth at the Spring 2014 shows – but hear the brand out. Urban Decay’s ebullient press statement on their new hero product includes this rather cocksure proclamation: “Even the firmly gloss averse will become hardcore addicts when they try Naked Lipgloss.”

What differentiates this gloss from say, the brand’s own Lip Junkie appears to be the nourishing skin-friendly ingredients that elevates this product to cosmeceutical status. Each tube is jampacked with hydrating goodies like high-tech hyaluronic spheres,  vitamin E, rosehip and avocado oils.

Colour-wise, choose from nine infinitely wearable hues with naughty names like Walk of Shame, a pretty nude shade shot through with holographic micro shimmer, and Lovechild, an amped up version in a bubblegum neon pink. All promise a dewy, non-greasy consistency and a high-gloss finish.

That’s all well and good, but we’re not going to lie: A big part of the Naked appeal is its sexy champagne packaging, which picks up the metallic rose golds of the latest Naked3 palette. Meanwhile, the doe-foot applicator’s elongated silhouette is supposed to pick up just the right amount of product.

Best design feature? In a clever play on its name, the tube of the Naked lipgloss also boasts a “peekaboo” glass cutout, allowing you to reach for the precise shade from the depths of your purse.

Whipping one of these sexy sticks out is one public display of Nakedness that will turn heads without landing you in a jail cell!

Urban Decay Naked Lipgloss, $32 each, is available at all Sephora stores. For more information, visit www.sephora.com/urban-decay and follow Sephora Singapore on Facebook and Twitter.
