Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to take circuit boards and computer phases like “hyperlink” and turn them into a look that’s decidedly fashion.
We’ve given you a rundown of the Italian fashion house Fendi’s Spring Summer 2014 runway show (and also bet that every look was Instagram-ed the moment the model made her way to the end of the runway). Now, we further break down the exquisite collection into “downloadable” and bite-sized pieces.
The clothes
Lagerfeld plays with layering to the best effect with sheer organza to form ombre dreams of dresses. Laser cut outs reference the pattern of copper lines on a circuit board that’s equal parts peekaboo and smart. The pieces move fluidly without losing its structure in fluorescent pastels shades. Of course, fur makes an appearance – the lightest fur coats float just like their organza peers.
The jewellery
The fur jewellery designed by Venturini Fendi’s daughter Delfina Delettrez is simply amazing in real life. Mink forms luscious lashes for Delettrez’s signature evil eye earrings and brooches and can be detached for the bling to be the centre of attention.
The bags
The summer troop of Bag Bugs also jumps aboard the various Peekaboos and 2Jours, some boasting the same geometric “circuit board” patterns as the clothing.
The shoes
The informatics influence is not forgotten for footwear. The shoes share the same layered ombre panels and an interesting double-heel that resembles the branches of a tree – perhaps a subtle inference to the branch language seen in computer programming?
