The shows kicked off yesterday in the Italian fashion capital. Here's what you should be watching out for.
Fendi & Google
The Roman luxury brand has teamed up with Google for an innovative livestreaming project that will see Parrot drones hovering above the runway for the first time ever. During the livestream on fendi.com on February 20, 2014, fans of the brand will be able to switch between the different views offered by the flying cameras. "The main reason for doing this is to be able to offer impressive images and an experience that even surpasses being at the actual show," Pietro Beccari, the company's president and chief executive officer, explained to WWD.
Jil Sander
On Saturday 22 February 2014, luxury label Jil Sander will show its first womenswear collection since the latest departure of its eponymous designer. Sander left the label for the third time in October 2013 and still hasn't been officially replaced (on previous occasions Milan Vukmirovic and Raf Simons were there to take the bow). Will the design team that produced the recent menswear collection serve up the goods? We'll have to wait and see.
Star Wars
Stay with us here: in both London and New York City, Star Wars reared its head out of the cultural ether. At Rodarte, designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy served up Death Star, C-3PO and Yoda print gowns; then, just a few days later, the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi collection featuring Darth Vader prints as well as some TIE fighter imagery hit the runway in London. Get ready for plenty of Luke Catwalker puns if any designers in Milan do the same. Who's the best candidate? Perhaps MSGM (who's previously incorporated quirky prints from Toilet Paper into their collections) could work the trend. - AFP RELAXNEWS
