It’s official, makeup junkies. After months of feverish speculation from fellow beauty pundits, ex-Chanel cosmetics crackerjack Peter Philips has shown his true colours, so to speak, by having just been revealed as the creative and image director of Christian Dior’s makeup division.

The brilliant Belgian-born prodigy – legendary for not haven’t wielded a cosmetics brush until he was 27 – assumes his new appointment “with immediate effect”, as crusty HR executives are wont to say.

Wait, what does this mean for the talented Tyen, the current (or should we say former) makeup mastermind at Maison Dior?

Industry insiders will be acutely aware of Tyen’s astronomical body of work for Dior: After all, the Vietnamese virtuoso has been begetting flabbergastingly beautiful face chart after face chart for the French fashion house since 1981.

When pressed for comment, a Dior spokesperson would only tell trade mag WWD that Tyen “will remain within the group".

Ambiguity surrounding Tyen’s future role aside, we’re positively rubbing our manicured hands in anticipation at what Philips will conjure up for Christian Dior.

After all, this is the man whose soft-bristled, badger-haired flights of fancy have conjured up unforgettable looks such as the platinum-scarred Pocahontases at Chanel’s Pre-fall 2014 Metiers D’Arts show and the holographic alien ice warriors hovering over the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014 runway.

In a statement hot off the press, Claude Martinez, president and chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, said of Philips: “His talent and his unique and modern vision of beauty are recognised around the world.”

Consider us among those duly charmed by the new man at the top – and in the scented spirit of Dior, J’adore Philips!
