Hello Kitty Bubbly World Plush Toys

The Hello Kitty Bubbly World collection features Hello Kitty in a never seen before balloon shape dressed as six Sanrio character favourites – Kerokerokeroppi, a frog, My Melody, a rabbit, Osaru No Monkichi, a monkey, PomPomPurin, a golden retriever, Tuxedosam, a penguin dressed in a tuxedo and Bad Badtz-maru, a spiky-haired penguin

Updated on April 28, 2014:

In light of last year's Hello Kitty food wastage scandal, McDonald's Singapore will be partnering with The Straits Times Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) to give customers an option to pledge the meals they don't want after buying Hello Kitty plush toys to charity. Donated meals, valued at $5 each, will go to lower income families whose children are SPMF beneficiaries in the form of meal vouchers. These McDonald's meal vouchers will then be distributed to the families after the promotion ends.

The adorable feline cartoon has done it again. The latest series of Hello Kitty collectibles, Hello Kitty Bubbly World, was launched online for the very first time on April 23 at 11am in special collector sets comprising all six plush toys.

However, within ten minutes of the release, McDonald's Singapore Facebook page reported slow response on the site due to high traffic. By around 12.20pm, just 80 minutes after the launch, McDonald's was forced to temporarily suspend orders online to ease traffic.

Claws came out on social media when angry customers were unable to get their hands on the collectibles. Many reported that even though they were camped out in front of the screen since 11am, they were still unable to process their orders. Worse still for some, their orders were processed and payment deducted but they had yet to receive confirmation of their order. Customer service officers replied to users with such complaints on their Facebook page, asking them to send in their details via email to verify if their orders have been processed. (UPDATE: As of 7pm on April 23, online sales of the Hello Kitty Bubbly World collectors' set have resumed and all successful transactions have been confirmed via email.)

If this is a sign of what’s to come when the plushies hit the actual outlets, I’m definitely avoiding the fast food chain at all cost.

The Hello Kitty Bubbly World series will first be introduced in Singapore Macdonald outlets, starting with the Kerokerokeroppi toy, from April 28, at $4.95 each with the purchase of any Extra Value Meal. Sales of the Hello Kitty Bubbly World special collectors set online, priced at $80 each, are to resume soon. For more information, visit the Mcdonald’s Singapore website at https://www.mcdonalds.com.sg/hello-kitty-bubbly-world/ and like them on Facebook.
