Nothing is impossible as long as Kaiser Karl is involved. With the most recent Autumn Winter 2014 runway supermarket spectacle still fresh in our minds, Karl Lagerfeld outdoes himself yet again with his venue for the Chanel Cruise 2014/2015 show.

To build a supermarket from scratch was a remarkable feat but for the Dubai show, Lagerfeld brought the standard up to an impossible high. Just eight weeks ago, Jumeirah’s The Island off the coast of Dubai was just an expanse of sand, but when the guests and fashion insiders from all around the world were ushered by boat to the Cruise 2014-2015 venue on May 13, 2014, an entire complex had sprouted from the sand complete with camels, date palms and Bedouin tents.

Freida Pinto, Dakota Fanning and Tilda Swinton were amongst the A-lister stars who trekked to the dessert to sit on the sand around low tables. Unsurprisingly, models walked down the runway with kohl eyes, big hair and harem pants done ala Chanel – you could almost hear the I Dream of Jeannie theme song playing in the background. Quilted handbags made in the likeness of petrol cans were toted – that particular accessory becoming the talk of the show.
