It’s amazing that the developers managed to squeeze a shopping mall in-between 313@Somerset and Orchard Central. Instead of the tiny space you’d imagine Orchard Gateway’s little entrance opens up into a huge shopping wonderland that actually spans 180,000 square feet.
While I can’t wait for the new National Library branch to open at Orchard Gateway ‒ does anyone else remember the library that used to be at Ngee Ann City? ‒ the interesting selection of stores has proven to be a strong enough pull to get me through the door. Before my wallet can protest, here’s my quick virtual tour of the five cool new stores at Orchard Gateway.

UNDER ARMOUR
Where: #B1-05
What: The American sportswear giant’s first Southeast Asian store has the local athletic community buzzing with excitement. The array of eye catching sweat-wicking performance gear is any sportswoman’s dream and may I remind you that Michael Phelps is one of the faces of the brand?
My pick: The UA Pure Stretch Cheeky underwear range. Not every sportswear brand makes underwear, which is an important component of any workout outfit. Under Armour’s Cheeky undies aren’t only VPL (visible panty line) free under the thinnest yoga pants but the lightweight super-soft stretch fabric is comfy and dies in a snap.

ACTUALLY
Where: #03-18
What: Actually’s no stranger to fashion-forward shoppers. The new flagship store is understandably the largest at 2,000 square feet and done up in a utilitarian warehouse-style concept, making for a different browsing experience. Besides the usual Dr Denim jeans and Frietag bags, the new store also stocks streetwear label Huf and outdoor brand Penfield.
My pick: Crosley Cruiser turntables. The lifestyle selection at Actually goes up another notch on the hipster scale with the inclusion of record players. Give your vinyls a twirl on the turntable that boasts built-in stereo speakers. If you are a child of the noughties, you can play your iPod’s playlist on it too.

TON
Where: #03-08/09
What: The word “ton” originates from French and means “being in fashion”. This new multi-label lifestyle store brings together a selection of bags, footwear and accessories that blend form and fashion, like leather arm candy by Stephane Verdino and edgy Claes Goran sneakers.
My pick: Roberta Pieri totes. A tote is an essential part of every girl’s wardrobe. The leather goods workshop is known for its elegant but simple designs ‒ think dependable lightweight bags that you can carry your entire life in.

i.t.
Where: #01-18 (opens June 13, 2014)
What: The third i.t. store in Singapore is a three-floor shopping haven. Street style favourites Izzue, B+ab and more will feature along popular Korean brands like Stylenanda and Low Classic that are new to Singapore. For the guys, the diffusion line Aape by a Bathing Ape will also debut in Southeast Asia at the Orchard Gateway i.t. store.
My pick: Stylenanda. The Korean fashion brand started online and is “the” blog store to brick-and-mortar retail success stories. Now, every young stylish Korean shopper shops there and the brand’s fans include K-Pop celebs like EXO, f(x) and Apink members.

EMBRACE JEWELLERY
Where: #01-15
What: This little nook of a store is a treasure trove of wallet-friendly bling. The exclusive handcrafted pieces are priced from $50 upwards and come from all over the world. You’ll find beautiful architecture-inspired rings from Barcelona’s Daniel Vior and statement rhinestone leather wraps by Oia Jules, a designer based in Los Angeles.
My pick: Daisy London’s chakra bracelets. These bracelets are a favourite of Sienna Miller and Cheryl Cole. I like how these silver and gold plated charms make a subtle statement and its said that Chakras can aid one’s mental and physical alignment.
