When it comes to skincare, serums are relatively expensive investments, so its best if you get the right one for your skin type. Following my article on the 5 things you need to know about serums, here are five tried and tested serums that work.
Skin Inc My Daily Dose
Everyone has a different skin type and condition. Hormonal changes, diets, and our DNA gives each of us a unique skin condition. As such, Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose “solves” this problem by creating a serum specifically for a person’s skin needs. The brand has nine different serums, that can be combined to make 84 combinations. To determine the right serum for you, the brand uses a series of questions to determine your skin type (and its needs). The end result is one product that tackles three different skin concerns.
Personally, I was a bit skeptical that a customised serum would work any better than more ‘generic’ ones. But since I had the chance to experience the skin test and My Daily Dose, I have to say the serum tackled my skin conditions to a tee. If you’ve got money to spare, Skin Inc’s My Daily Dose is a fabulous option for a serum made just for you.
Origins Plantscription Anti-aging Serum
This natural powerhouse is famous for its innovative use of plants in its skin care products. Likewise, Plantscription is an anti-ageing serum that harnesses the power of Anogeissus, a rare tree in West Africa. Origin claims that the tree bark extract of Anogeissus is said to protect your skin’s collagen, as well as boost the production of fibrillin. Together with vitamin C and rosemary, this serum hopes to erase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as boost your skin’s elasticity. Due to the richness of this anti-ageing serum, the brand says that it is more suited for people with mature skin, as its ingredients work to boost your wrinkles while you age gracefully.
Laneige Water Bank Essence_EX
Fans of Laneige can rejoice. The brand has finally announced a new and improved version of its Water Bank series. The new series comes complete with an essence, gel cream, and new gel mask! What I would like to rave about however, is the Laneige Water Bank Essence_ EX. The new and improved essence (which functions as a serum) works wonders in retaining my skin’s moisture.
According to Laneige, this new essence uses Tillandsia and White Willow bark extract to gather moisture from the air, and lower the skin’s temperature. What this means is that you get a product that actively cools your skin while it grabs and retains moisture from its surroundings. What I love about this essence is its cream-based texture, as it allows me to mix it with other oils (such as my current favourite Rose Hip!) ‒ giving me the option to customise my own essence!
Sloane Inc White Plasma S6.5
Uneven skin tones and discolouration may be a thing of the past. Sloane Inc’s White Plasma serum combats two issues: Spots of pigmentation and overall uneven skin tone. The brand says that it does so by using vitamin C and tyrosinase inhibitors to lighten pigmentation spots, while the rest of the serum helps to retain your skin’s luminosity. The oil-free serum is said to absorb at lightning speed into your skin, and its use of minimal ingredients (there are no AHAs or retinoids) make it suitable for people with sensitive skin. If you’re looking for a dual-action brightening serum, this might be it!
Sisley Youth
You know how it’s never too late to start on your anti-ageing regime. If you’re young and looking for a serum that gives you anti-ageing properties, Sisley’s Youth should be right up your alley. The silky textured serum was made for those aged 25-35, so you won’t have to worry about this product being too strong for you. Sisley’s Youth works by protecting your youth (while you still have it) with ingredients such as kiwi, ginseng, and soy peptide extracts. The brand claims that these ingredients work together to strengthen your collagen production, while sagging lines and wrinkles are prevented in the future.
