Wedding season is upon us. My weekends have been packed with weddings of friends and relatives to attend since the month of June started. As happy as I am to take part in the celebrations, I’ve run out of things to wear!
Shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding is not the easiest thing to do. As a guest, stealing the bride’s show is a big no-no – it’s her big day after all! But that doesn’t mean you can’t look good. With this in mind, I’ve searched for dresses that balance both subtle and stunning.
Here are nine dresses for every kind of wedding that you will attend – from a religious ceremony to outdoor garden and grand banquet weddings, we’ve got you covered.

Religious ceremony wedding
Be it the church, temple or other religious institution, it’s always wise to err on the conservative side. Covered shoulders and knee-length or longer hemlines are more appropriate for a religious ceremony. But conservative doesn’t have to mean boring. Play up the simple shift with prints like this Preen by Thornton Bregazzi dress or go for a covered up kimono-styled pencil skirt dress like this one from ASOS in a bold colour. The lace overlay of the Philip Armstrong Athina dress keeps the look decent and the flirty skater skirt is ultra-flattering, especially on petite girls.
[From left] Stylestalker Winner dress from SheShops, $220; Jillian dress from Diane von Furstenberg, $730; Preen by Thornton Bregazzi whiskey stretch-crepe dress from The Outnet.com, $861
Outdoor garden wedding
An outdoor venue may seem to be a more casual setting but it’s possible to dress up and stay cool. Cue light-as-feather fabrics and exposed shoulders and legs. Plus, a garden wedding is a great place for colours, the brighter the better! The Winner dress from Stylestalker or the Jillian dress from Diane von Furstenberg will add a pop of colour to the wedding pictures. Don’t forget interesting details like cutouts and slits. Pale pink, like this Preen by Thornton Bregazzi one is an option for girlie girl wedding guests.

Wedding banquet dinner
A classy wedding dinner calls for you to bring your A-game. Sequins and glitter work best at night and remember there is such a thing as too shiny – this Oscar de la Renta polka-dot number is a classy sequined example. Sexy lace ups the va-va-voom factor – like this Aurora dress by Philip Armstrong. Sheer panels and an experimental design like this Three Floor Feverish one is a statement-making option that your fellow wedding guests won’t forget anytime soon.
