Pop-up theatrical dining event Stories has been cancelled, announced organiser My Private Chef.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the culinary company's founder and director Crystal Chua said that the event will no longer take place due to lukewarm response. Members of the public will receive a full refund of their ticket price by the respective ticketing partners.

Originally slated to be held at the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station from Thursday to Sunday, it was intended as the start of a dining series that will celebrate Singapore's history and iconic sites through food and wine. Diners were supposed to enjoy a five-course fine dining meal while being entertained by actors in scenes inspired by the station's history.

"It is with deep regret that we have to cancel the first chapter of Stories at Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. Unfortunately, sales performed below expectations and we are unable to proceed with the event as planned. We thank you for your understanding and we apologise for any inconvenience caused," said Ms Chua.

She added that corporate partners and ticket giveaway winners will have the option of having the same dining experience conducted at My Private Chef's studio at Tras Street at a later date.

Stories is one of many themed dining events which have popped up recently. At least three were hosted in the last two months.

Pop culture website Geek Crusade held its first Game Of Thrones-inspired dinner at Italian restaurant No Menu in April and organised a sequel in May. A third dinner event, which will be based on American drama Hannibal or The Hunger Games movies, is in the works.

On June 5, Clarke Quay hosted an inaugural pop-up, invite-only dining event called A Midsummer's Night Feast at the Read Bridge, part of its Unexpected Gourmet series. The theme was based on a fresh spring and summer look, with white floral decor, vibrant lighting and a colourful dress code. A spokesman said the series is returning next year and will be open to the public.
