Losing your hair isn’t an overnight affair. Unlike zits that appear immediately, hair loss is more like a wrinkle ─ it starts off as a small problem that grows into something more major. Just as you slather on anti-ageing creams before you actually start aging, hair loss should be dealt with when you still have hair.
I’ve written about the reasons why our hair falls out, and unfortunately, a lot of them are beyond our control, but whether or not you're already battling chronic hair loss, or trying to treat a temporary bout of falling hair, here are some tips that will help you prevent and cure this problem now.
PREVENTION
Is your hair losing it’s former glory? If you have thin hair or are you prone to genetic hair loss ─ it’s time to start “densifying” your mane. I promise you won’t regret it!
Diet
One of the easiest way to prevent hair loss is to load up on protein. As hair is primarily made up of this substance, having lots of veggies and red meat will certainly help in giving your hair some necessary food.
Kérastase Aminexil Force Repair
Strengthen your scalp with Kérastase’s Aminexil Force Repair. The famous salon-stocked brand is pricey for a reason. The hair serum works by promoting activity from the hair root, and by preventing collagen from stiffening in your hair follicle. The brand claims that its key ingredient, Rhamnose, saves 140 strands of hair in it’s first use ─ strengthening the scalp with repeated use.
Phyto Phytopolléine
A personal favourite, Phyto’s Phytopolléine literally saved my hair. I’m a pretty lazy person when it comes to dealing with hair, but in my dire state I didn’t really have much of a choice.
The hair oil is like an elixir of sorts. The 100 percent botanical concoction uses essential oils to cleanse and rebalance your scalp, according to the brand. What this means is that it clears up clogged hair follicles (and dandruff!) while promoting a healthy scalp!
CURE
Already suffering from chronic hair loss? Whether it’s a temporary bout of stress or permanent genetic problem, you can still save your mane.
Phyto Phytocyane Revitalizing Thinning Hair Treatment
Created to tackle temporary hair loss, Phytocyane is an award-winning serum with superpowers (well, kind off). Phyto says this serum addresses hair fall by using vitamins B and gingko biloba to strengthen your scalp, while a cocktail of botanical ingredients then enters and promote the growth of healthy shiny hair.
Kérastase Densifique Hair range
The brand claims that this range took them 10 years to formulate; The result of which is finding the one ingredient that creates the perfect environment for your hair to grow. Using stemoxydine and a vitamin complex, the brand says that this formulation will stimulate unprecedented hair growth.
The full range of Densifique gives you multi-pronged approach in treating chronic hair loss, from shampoo to ampoules, the brand gives you the option of tailoring products to your needs (and habits!).
DRx Trichological Treatments
For really bad situations, trust the experts. The DRx Medispa invited me for a hair consultation with the trichologist, and I decided to give it a go.
FYI: Prior to my consultation I already knew the main issues surrounding my hair loss. I wanted to see if they did, and if they could solve it.
My main problem was that my hair follicles were thick with oil, so although I was blessed with great hair genes the oil prevented new hair from growing out. This resulted in a slow thinning process that will almost certainly result in chronic hair loss (if the oil continued to clog my hair follicles). Principal Trichologist Peggy Goh, advised that I tried the purifying treatment; as it would unclog all the gunk and allow my new hair to grow.
The treatment was fairly simple, and I was given a hair scan before and after the process. The hair scan showed that the clarifying treatment was really effective in unclogging my follicles, and I have to say that I was impressed (I’ve always been trying to unclog the oil, really). To top it off, Peggy (the trichologist) really knew her stuff and was very warm in the consultation. If you have the budget, this is the hair solution I would recommend.
