Rachel McAdams changed the colour of her mascara after her mom complained it was "too black".
The 35-year-old actress dolls up her porcelain appearance beautifully while on the red carpet, often adding a brush of blusher and lipstick. It was her mother Sandra who recommended Rachel gave her eyelashes a more natural finish rather than going for a darker shade.
"She always thinks my sister's and my mascara is too black," Rachel divulged in the August issue of Allure magazine. "I've finally heeded her advice, and I'm now wearing brown. It goes better with light eyes, blue eyes. But I love a thick black. I just love to whack it on."
Rachel first came to movie goers' attention after her role as high school bully Regina George in 2004's Mean Girls. As she got more popular the star hired the help of her sister, make-up artist Kayleen McAdams, to help create her beauty looks in the spotlight. However, Rachel wasn't always on trend.
"I went through a period where I'd wear stickers or have some sort of temporary face tattoo," she recalled. "[Kayleen] put me in my place. She was like, 'You have to stop that.'"
It isn't just her face that Rachel focuses attention on. The Notebook star is also envied for her luscious tresses, which she keeps looking healthy by using a particular product. Over the years Rachel has had an array of styles, and she is currently pulling off long brown hair.
"Right now, I'm using Lavera. It's the Rose Milk line, which I just love the sound of," she added.
