OK, so you may not be the sportiest girl around. Your idea of a workout is running for the bus. I get it. But the sportswear trend is one of the easiest – and comfiest - to follow.
Perhaps I haven’t been the most persuasive. If you don’t frequent the gym, why should you invest in a sportswear wardrobe? Well, there’s always the high street option to test out a trend without breaking the bank.
The H&M Sport line is not new but thanks to all the athletic loving on the runway, the high street’s sportswear range has also been the focus of much attention recently. This is not a coincidence. The folks at the Swedish high street brand have noticed their customers getting on board with being active and eating right. Pera Smeds, H&M Sport women designer explains, “Developing highly functional sportswear that looks and feel great both in and out of the gym has been a very natural step for H&M.”

Smeds and Jonas Blom, the men’s designer of H&M Sport agree that this is a trend that is here to stay, despite the season. Blom believes that just like how sneakers are worn at work and on the catwalk today, thanks to inclination towards healthy living, the stylish sportswear are here to stay, despite the trend.
H&M may be known for its fast fashion yet the designers create the sportswear range just like other performance brands. High quality, functional fabrics combined with the brand’s approach to fashion results in function, comfortable and fashionable sportswear pieces.
“Almost all of our pieces are made for sporty activities. We pick functional fabrics for best possible comfort when wearing them. Still you can wear them outside the gym, styled in a cool and relaxed way,” affirms Smeds.
For example, Smeds suggests pairing the athletic top, $39.90, (5) with a pair of jeans and trainers for the perfect street-inspired look. Why not layer over that ensemble with the sleeveless hoodie, $39.90, (3) from the mens’ range to add more edge to your style?
The printed tights, $49.90, (2) would be perfect under a slouchy knit and works great when you are transiting to and from the gym while the bright tank, $19.90, (6) is great for the weekends and lazy days at the beach. I would totally steal the American football-inspired T-shirt, $19.90, (4) from the guys to wear oversized with denim cut-offs. Finally, I reckon the sports jacket, $59.90, (1) is a lightweight travel essential.
