More often than not, we don’t realise the importance of moisturising until it’s too late. The reality is that Singapore’s weather makes moisturising quite a pain - your skin feels sweaty and oily most of the time, so why do you want to hydrate it even further?
Despite Singapore’s hot and sticky climate, moisturising should still be a vital step to any skincare regime, says Dr Naelong Wang, General Manager for Research and Development at Mentholatum. Moisturising your skin is important as it creates a barrier to seal in your skincare, while also protecting your skin at the same time.
Probably the hardest part of moisturising is finding the moisturiser that suits you. If you haven’t found your favourite, I round up some of the newest products on the market that you need to try.
Dry Skin: Pond’s Age Miracle Cell ReGEN Cream
Once famous for its cold creams, Pond’s has revamped itself with a slew of nifty products. The brand’s anti-ageing range, Age Miracle, uses scientifically proven ingredients (retinol and AHA) to battle fine lines and wrinkles. The new Age Miracle Cell ReGEN Cream is a great choice if you suffer from dry skin: The creamy texture moisturises extremely well, while also preventing moisture loss at the epidermis level.
Oily Skin: Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion Light
Most of my friends with oily skin often tell me they opt for lightweight gel or water-based moisturisers, but even then, they still find these moisturisers too thick for their liking. My advice to them is to use a lotion - the Japanese version of a toner - as I feel that they are a great alternative.
One of the best known lotions on the market, Hada Labo’s Hydrating Lotion has just recently been made even better. The brand has reformulated the product to include four different types of hyaluronic acid - which supposedly hydrates your skin at various different levels. What I’m really excited about, however, is that the lotion is now available in a Lighter option. Oily-skin sufferers, rejoice!
Combination Skin: Creme Simon Brightening Detox Oxygenating Light Day Moisturiser
A French brand famous in the 60s, Creme Simon is now in Singapore with formulas catered to Asian skin and climates. The Brightening Detox Oxygenating Light Day Moisturiser is a lightweight gel that absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky feeling behind. Made with the latest Liquid Crystal technology, this gel contains a botanical concoction that supposedly infuses your skin with oxygen, while promoting the removal of toxins.
A moisturiser made specifically for you: Ioma Ma Crème
A serum moisturiser, Ma Crème is the latest bespoke offering of Ioma. A moisturiser and serum, Ma Crème is a customisable product that is tailored to meet your skincare needs.
Using the brand’s state of the art skin analyser, Sphere 2, your skin is first decoded layer by layer: From hydration to pigmentation, the machine analyses the depth of each problem, finally choosing from 40,257 Ma Crème formulations to find the one that suits you; A bespoke moisturiser doesn’t get better than this.
