Do you look like a dishevelled mess every morning? It’s time that you took control of your flyaway hair

Are you sick of having to comb your hair with water every now and then? A dye job gone wrong or too many chemical treatments may cause your hair to rebel. Apart from conditioning your hair daily, these are three easy ways you can beat the frizz.

MINIMISE HEAT
Hair starts to become frizzy when it loses moisture, which is why it “shrivels” up to a straw-like strand. When you’re battling the frizz, avoid subjecting your hair to all forms of heat, whether it’s a curling iron or a normal blow dry.

Toni & Guy's Heat Protection Mist now comes in a very cute travel-friendly size.

And if you really must use a heat applicator, be sure to protect your hair with a heat protector such as Toni & Guy’s Heat Protection Mist. The product is said to create a shield over your strands, preventing heat from causing further damage to your mane.

GIVE IT A BOOSTING SERUM
Your hair, like skin, needs tender loving care. When I start to look like a lion in the morning, I often rely on a anti-frizz serum to help tame my locks. The trick is to use the serum right after a wash (once your hair is dry), so that the serum can be absorbed with maximum efficacy.

Applying a serum in the middle of the day won’t be as effective, since your hair will already be coated with natural oils, making it difficult for the product to work its magic.

For days when I’m really lazy, I slather on Marc Anthony’s Perfect Blow Dry Smoothing Cream. The brand claims that its pre-blow dry cream helps to soothe stubborn locks for up to three days, so I don’t have to continuously apply every morning.

Otherwise, John Frieda’s famous Frizz Ease range has a very decent Nourishing Oil Elixir that targets frizzy hair. Containing argan oil, the oil-based serum tames my Einstein hair and gives it a glossy finish.

SWITCH TO ANTI-FRIZZ
Are you still using shampoo for normal or damaged hair? It's time to switch. Unlike split ends which are “one-off”, frizzy hair is unfortunately a recurring issue. Which is why brands like L’Oreal and John Frieda have dedicated an entire range of anti-frizz products for your mane.

Unlike normal shampoo that just aims to strip off dirt and grime, anti-frizz shampoos work to repair the damage in your hair while smoothing it out at the same time. L’Oreal’s new Ketain Smooth range [please double check if it's Keratin] for example, targets frizzy hair from the outside by repairing the surface of uneven hair.

Instead of only working to moisturise, the brand says that its Keratin Smooth range uses Micro-Keratin technology to fill in any uneven hair surface, which it believes is the cause for einstein hair.

John Frieda’s Frizz Ease on the other hand, works to moisturise your strands from deep within. The products target split ends and unmanageable tresses by fuelling your locks with moisture. And unlike most brands that cater to straight hair only, the brand’s famous anti-frizz range has two separate products targeted made specifically for curly, or straight hair. So you wouldn’t have to worry that your anti-frizz product is straightening your curls.
