What was first dismissed as a hoax has been confirmed to be the real thing: Mountain Dew has found a way to turn nacho cheese-flavoured Doritos into a fizzy, liquid drink.
And it’s called "Dewitos."
That’s right. In what the internet has been calling the ongoing ‘Dorito-fication’ of America, and America: Doritofied, PepsiCo has bottled the nacho cheese flavors of Doritos and liquefied it into a bright, orange-hued and orange-tinged fizzy drink.
According to one Reddit user, who first brought PepsiCo’s hybrid Franken-drink to the cyber world’s attention: “It honestly wasn’t that disgusting.”
“Like if you shoved a handful of doritos in your mouth and chugged some dew at the same time,” wrote Steve Barnes.
An official statement from PepsiCo revealed that the company is testing out the “Doritos-inspired flavor” at college campuses across the US.
Or, as talk show host Stephen Colbert put it in in a segment on his Colbert Report this week: “Food scientists are now using undergrad lab rats to test a new Mountain Dew, Dorito-hybrid. You were right stoners, Frito-Lay can hear your thoughts.”
Operation Dorito-fication America has been in high gear ever since the frenetic hype that came with the creation of Taco Bell’s Doritos Tacos Locos.
Following its wild success, parent company PepsiCo announced that it had also struck a deal with US restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings that would see the development of Doritos-inspired dishes in which the chips were used as a crunchy topping for wings and chicken tenders. -- AFP RELAXNEWS
