Being a shopaholic may not be such a bad thing afterall. The pile of old bags that you’ve grown out of will finally come in handy to benefit someone in need.
Galleria Italiana, a multi-label Italian luxury leather goods boutique, has came up with a project that will support women in need. And the ones who can play a part to lend a helping hand? All other women out there.
In conjunction with the International Women’s Day, the luxury boutique will start a month-long pre-loved handbag donation drive. Anyone with a used handbag can drop by their boutique in Orchard Central where they will be checked for their condition, before Star Shelter, a crisis centre that provides a safe haven for women, resells them.
For each handbag donated, Galleria Italiana will also offer a $50 cash voucher where multiple vouchers may be combined to offset up to 50 per cent off the regular retail price of a new handbag purchase at the boutique.
The sale of the bags will help the shelter raise funds to aid and empower women to take responsibility for their lives and assist them in rebuilding their future.
Working in partnership with the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO), Galleria Italiana conceived this social initiative to mark International Women's Day (IWD), which falls on March 8.
“SCWO is honoured to be chosen as a beneficiary, and are grateful for the support and encouragement from Galleria Italiana. This thoughtful initiative will go a long way in helping Star Shelter continue its good work in assisting the victims of domestic violence. This will boost our existing line of support of contributions towards the Star Shelter via New2U, our thrift shop which sells pre-loved goods,” said Selina Gan, General Manager of SCWO.
Derrick Yeo, director of Galleria Italiana adds, “We acknowledge the role of women in our society and respect their valuable contribution both at home and in the workforce. Through this drive, we hope to be able to empower more women in improving their lives.”
A worthy cause? We sure think so.
