FOR A COLD
“Add a few slices of onion to water and bring it to the boil. Sip your concoction slowly,” recommends Sebastian Liew, medical herbalist and doctor of naturopathy at Sebastian Liew Centre. “Onions are high in the antioxidant quercetin, which boosts the immune system and modulates inflammation and histamine release. This can help decongest a runny nose naturally.” Onions are also rich in sulphuric compounds, which help your body to flush out toxins.
FOR A FEVER
Ease your temperature with some galangal root powder tea or yarrow tea. “Galangal and yarrow are cooling, and promote the elimination of toxins via perspiration. These herbs also help support the immune system,” says Sebastian.
FOR A TENSION HEADACHE
Skip the pills and step into the shower instead to get relief. “Bathe in hot water for 1 minute, then switch to cold water for 15 seconds, and back again,” Sebastian advises. Alternating water temperature helps stimulate blood circulation and increase the flow of nutrients to your brain. You’ll also feel refreshed and invigorated.
TIP!
Do a tech detox. “The sensory overload from tech gadgets can overstimulate your nervous system, which in turn, weakens digestion and immunity,” says Sebastian. The next time you’re feeling under the weather, ditch your smartphone to feel better instantly!
