Haters are gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, but Nadia is gonna shake, shake, shake it off.

Nadia Rahmat scored one for Singapore in a big way when she was cast in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2015 campaign, but it seems that no matter what the good news was, there were also ‘haters’ who expressed their discontent.

Nadia told herworldPLUS in a phone interview that some people did not like the way she dressed in her #CastMeMarc picture, saying that it was “not suitable” and were disapproving of the ‘tattoos’ she had (which were actually hennas).

“At first I noticed the people posting [negative comments] online, and then friends began to ask me ‘did you read [the comments]’, but no, I don’t want to read it,” she said.

On January 22, 2015, Nadia posted:

She said over the phone resolutely: “It’s not affecting me or anything.”

Luckily for her, it probably has to do with the support she has received.

Singaporeans have gone out of their way to express support by sending her messages on social media.

“I’ve been receiving messages from strangers saying ‘don’t let it get to you, you’re doing really great’. People who’ve never even met me but are so encouraging.

“People who are not [Facebook] friends with me have sent me private messages on Facebook, and have commented on my Instagram posts as well.”

Her friends have been very protective and her mum was sassy enough. Her words to Nadia were: “Don’t worry, they don’t know you. You haven’t done anything horrible to anyone so just do your thing and be true to yourself.”

Looks like despite the backlash, it’s score 2 for Singapore supporters, 0 for haters.
