Party now, remove glitter later! Image: Instagram
Right now is about right for busting out the sparkly stuff – I mean, might as well go big or go home with your chinois cheongsam and spangled stilettos, right?
But while a sexy slick of say, emerald eyeliner may make for “skinstant” gratification, a split second’s distraction spells disaster: Streaky tears running down your cheek that are well nigh impossible to get rid of without taking half your face-paint with it.
What now? Happily, your right to bear glue-guns are still yours to keep, if you keep these nifty glitter removal tips and tricks on hand:
IF YOU HAVE UNWANTED GLITTER ON …
YOUR NAILS: The most accident-prone of all, you can easily sop up any boo-boos by stashing a cache of cotton balls and acetone polish remover right next to you whenever you’re doing your nails. Negative space turned positive, so to speak? No fear. Quick as lightning, dunk a cotton ball in the remover solution, smoosh the clumpy cotton onto the offending nail, then wrap the sucker up with kitchen-grade aluminium foil. Wait three minutes for the solution to do its magic, then unwrap your finger and discard the foil. Voila! With any luck, the particles would have slid off together with its wrapper.
YOUR FACE: Okay, this is more of a preemptive measure really, because truthfully, there’s next to nothing you can do for ruined cheeks save reaching for a wet wipe. Instead, whenever metallic shadows and such are involved in your #FOTD, slap on a sturdy undereye mask – biocellulose is best, natch – that both de-puffs and guards against glitter fallout at the same time. If shimmer still manages to find its way onto your face, do as I do and press the sticky side of a swatch of Scotch tape onto the specks; they’ll lift straight off.
YOUR HAIR: If your night of downing shots and shuffling mahjong tiles with your girl friends ends with you fishing sparkly flecks out of your scalp … well, no judgment. Here’s what you can do to salvage the situation: Simply douse a kitchen paper towel with a ton of hair spray, then use it to blot, starting from the roots. Quick tip: Pat deftly and decisively; the sticky polymers of the spray should grab onto the glitter and whisk ‘em away without taking off your locks.
Right, then. I hope these DIY hacks work as swimmingly for you as they did for me. You can thank me by bookmarking this page and sharing it with your beauty buddies. Cheers!
