1 SUNFLOWER SEED COOKIES
$17.80 a tub, from Kele, #06-16, Jurong Food Hub, 15 Jalan Tepong, tel: 6560-1249 and www.kele.sg. Available now.
The melt-in-your-mouth pastry wasn’t too buttery, and had the right amount of crumbliness to it. We liked the delicious crunch and nutty saltiness of the sunflower seeds.
2 GREEN TEA CHOCOLATE SHORTBREAD
$20.80 a tub, from all Cedele bakeries and cafes, including #B1-01 Raffles City Shopping Centre, tel: 6334-4828. Available from Jan 16.
It was love at first bite: the crumbly shortbread was rich, with a mild saltiness that balanced its buttery flavour. Green tea fans would have liked a stronger kick, but most thought that the mix of green tea and chocolate was just right.
3 5 TREASURE BISCUITS
$24 a tub, from Baker’s Well, 35 East Coast Road, tel: 6348-6864. Available now at Takashimaya Square from Jan 22 to Feb 17.
Crunchy and savoury, this thin, wafer-like biscuit has a traditional five-spice-flavour that was extremely addictive. It’d pair very well with drinks, making it the perfect post-CNY dinner snack.
4 ESPRESSO CRUNCH
$19.80 a tub, from all Cedele bakeries and cafes.
A whiff of fragrant coffee greeted us as when we opened this tin. The pastry isn’t too dry and though the coffee flavour is strong, it doesn’t overwhelm. Most of the coffee-lovers among us enjoyed the slight bitter aftertaste, and couldn’t get enough of this.
5 CHEESE CEREAL
$24 a tub, from Baker’s Well.
We couldn’t get enough of the salty cheese flavour that goes very well with the crunchy cereal.
6 LYCHEE COOKIES
$24 a tub, from Baker’s Well.
The pastry was baked to a crisp yet moist perfection, and had generous bits of dried lychee in every bite.
7 DURIAN NIAN GAO ROLL
$28 for two rolls, from Min Jiang, Goodwood Park Hotel, 22 Scotts Road, tel: 6730-1704, and Min Jiang at One-north, 5 Rochester Park, tel: 6774-0122. Available from Feb 5 to Mar 5.
The sweet, fragrant durian paste, wrapped in layers of gula melaka-infused nian gao and sprinkled with coconut flakes, lived up to our high expectations. Unlike regular nian gao, it’s firmer and doesn’t have a bouncy mochi texture.
8 GULA MELAKA COCONUT
$20 a tub, from all Cedele bakeries and cafes.
This is nicely aromatic and light, and while the cookie is a tad dry, we liked how the coconut fibres added a lemak flavour. Our only wish: more gula melaka, please!
