What is the best way to wash my makeup brushes?- Cheryl Yin, 27, marketing executive
There are several steps to observe, says makeup artist Larry Yeo.
KNOW HOW OFTEN TO WASH. If you have combination to oily skin, wash your brushes every three days as the bristles will pick up sebum. Wash once a week if you have dry skin.
IT'S BEST TO USE TAP WATER. Warm water damages natural bristles.
USE A MILD SOAP OR DETERGENT. "To remove makeup build-up, I use Sunsilk Light Frequent Wash Shampoo on my natural-hair brushes, and Bio-home Dishwash Liquid to get rid of water-resistant makeup from synthetic brushes," says Larry. Then remove excess moisture with a towel.
LAY FLAT TO DRY. Leave the bristles sticking out, so you don't change the shape of the brush. Let natural-hair brushes dry for 12 hours, and give synthetic ones at least a day to dry completely.
