TOKYO - Although today was my last day at Tokyo Fashion Week for this Autumn Winter 2015 season (I usually do the full week but have cut it short to head to Seoul Fashion Week), three of the most interesting Japanese fashion labels were on show, back-to-back, giving me an overview of where the industry is right now.
Minimalism from dressedundressed was followed by crazy maximalism from Dresscamp and then the youngest brand Lamarck ended the morning with a nice mix of both … Here are some of my favourite looks.
DRESSEDUNDRESSED
Dressedundressed designers Takeshi Kitazawa and Emiko Sato are known for their minimalist unisex style. For AW15 the look was fairly sexless as well, despite the low plunging jackets worn without shirts. Still, if you like a bit of minimalist masculine tailoring this is the collection for you.
DRESSCAMP
Toshikazu Iwaya, the designer of Dresscamp is known for his arty mix of lowbrow excess and sportswear; think 80s prom dresses, printed tracksuits, multiple fabrics, glitter and lots of colour; exactly what he sent down the runway for AW15 although this time there was a bit of a 60s boudoir vibe as well. Oh, the menswear was just the same! Very OTT but crazy fun and as far from minimalism as you can get!
LAMARCK
Lamarck designer Shinsuke Morishita manages to combine great tailoring with soft texture and wearable colour without making it boring. For AW15 he added a touch of fun fur to his elegant separates and fantastically tailored coats sending lots of die-die must-buy looks down the runway.
