Mad Men Megan Draper
With its retro styling and timeless design flair, Mad Men is one of the coolest shows on TV.

Within minutes of the fifth season premiere airing, beauty blogs were abuzz with excitement over the super-chic makeup looks gracing our screens.

And the most-blogged about look was undoubtedly that of Megan Draper, played by Canadian actress Jessica Paré.

Best of all, the retro eyeliner flicks worn by Don Draper’s beautiful wife are actually totally on trend for this season too.

The cat-eye effect was a major look during the Spring/Summer 12 shows, with designers including Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino opting for the retro beauty twist.

So, what was the inspiration behind Megan Draper’s look?

“We didn’t want Megan to look like Joan or Betty with their 1950s-style thick pancake foundation and red lips, because she’s younger and hipper,” the show’s head makeup artist Lana Horochowski told Us Weekly.

“The inspiration was a young Sophia Loren mixed with a mod Twiggy and some Cleopatra.”

To create Megan’s stunning look she applied a white cream shadow over the entire lid up to the brow bone and into the nose, then topped it with Nars Eyeshadow in Heart of Glass.

Next, she used liquid liner to create an extreme cat-eye effect before layering the entire lash line with long individual fakes and applying a thick strip of pointy lashes. Several coats of mascara pulled all the lashes together.

On the lips she used Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Belle de Jour with Nars Blush in Desire on the apples of the cheeks.

And as Megan would say, voila! © Cover Media
